国際コミュニケーションコースの1年生を対象に〈国際交流研修〉を担当させていただきました。
2020年からご縁をいただき、今年で4回目の研修となります。
「国際人とは？」という大きな問いについて、PCVのファシリテーターがそれぞれのテーマで英語のワークショップを行いました。
最初はどこか不安な表情だった生徒さんも、研修が終わるころには、非常に充実した表情を浮かべていました。研修を終えた生徒さんの声を紹介します。

～生徒の声～
広島のことを英語で伝える場面があったが、伝えるためには自分がしっかり広島について知っておかなければならないと感じたので私の故郷である広島についてもっと知りたいという気持ちになれるいい機会となった。
コミュニケーションをとるときには言葉だけでなく、ジェスチャーや笑顔も大切にしなければならないと感じた。
研修が終わっても町で何らかの標識を見かけたり、テレビで日本語が聞こえてきたりすると「これ、英語だったらなんていうんだろう」と考えるくらい英語がもっと好きになった！
今回の研修ではトライすることの重要性を学んだ。修学旅行などで海外のいくときには間違いを恐れず、積極的にコミュニケーションをとりたい。
英語を通して平和について学んでいきました。戦争をなくすにはどうすればいいかなどを考えていったが、固定概念をなくしていくこと、お互いを尊重することなどが重要だということを学んだ。

【International Exchange Program at Hiroshima Municipal Funairi High School】
We were in charge of the International Exchange Program for first-year students in the International Communication Course. We’ve been involved with the program since 2020, and this is the fourth year that we’ve offered this training. In line with the general question, What is a global person? the PCV facilitators conducted workshops in English on related themes. The students, who seemed somewhat nervous at first, looked very satisfied by the end. Here are some of their comments.

Because the program required us to communicate about Hiroshima in English, I knew I had to learn more about it, so it was a great opportunity to gain knowledge about my own home.
I learned that communicating entails a lot more than words—gestures and smiles are also key.
The program’s over, but even now, when I see a sign in town or hear Japanese on TV, I often wonder what those words would be in English!
This training taught me to stand up and try things–not sit back and wait for others. When I go abroad on school trips, I want to interact freely without being afraid to make mistakes.
We learned to think about peace in English. We struggled with how to eliminate war and other problems. We learned that preconceptions are roadblocks, and we learned the importance of mutual respect.
