Every year, students from Yarra Valley Grammar visit Japan to experience Japanese culture like kimono and tea ceremony. And they enjoy exchanges with sister school, Hiroshima Johoku High School.
During their two-week stay, one day was dedicated to learning about Hiroshima’s history. They visited the Peace Memorial Museum, Fukuromachi elementary school(a-bomb building), and Orizuru Tower. PCV led an English tour as well.
One Peace Buddy shared:
“When I told my great-grandfather’s story at the memorial mound, one student leaned forward to listen carefully. I felt we became a little closer.”
Many students had never heard stories from survivors’ perspectives. We hope this experience gave them something special they could learn in person in Hiroshima.
