We recently conducted dialogue sessions and tours for educators from the United States, Puerto Rico, and other regions. The participants work with children of various ages, from kindergarten through high school, and are passionate educators who believe that in order to provide engaging education to their students, they themselves must first experience interesting and meaningful things.

During the dialogue session, three Peace Buddies gave presentations in English about why they started this activity and what drives their commitment to this work. Following the presentations, we engaged in dialogue on the theme: “How can we connect what we’ve learned in Hiroshima to the next generation and children moving forward?”
We chose this theme because, as people who are all active in the field of education, we wanted to ensure that what they learned and felt in Hiroshima wouldn’t remain just a one-day experience, but something they could continue to build upon after returning to their home countries and communities.
During the session, one group highlighted “empathy” as a crucial keyword when considering peace. Their reasoning was that through empathy, we can more powerfully realize that what happened in Hiroshima and what is happening in the world today is not completely unrelated to us—these are things happening to fellow human beings.

At the end, they presented us with gifts along with their heartfelt gratitude. It was truly an honor to engage in such deep dialogue with people whose profession involves “conveying” messages to children.
We remain committed to continuing our work of conveying the value of peace to children.
