The students from the Scouts Australia visited Hiroshima and joined our peace tour.
After spending six days at a national Scout camp, they visited Peace Memorial Park with students from Shimizugaoka High School.
Despite the hot weather, everyone listened carefully and actively joined the conversations.
One student brought paper cranes she had made with her family and offered them at the Children’s Peace Monument. The students were also surprised and interested to learn that paper cranes are sent to Hiroshima from all over the world.
During the reflection time, they shared their thoughts, including:
“I felt confused that human beings could do something so cruel.”
“Seeing and hearing the stories for myself helped me understand how frightening war is.”
At the end of the program, they gave Peace Buddies special scarves as a gift!
We are so grateful that, across different countries and backgrounds, we could share our hope for peace and make new friendships. 🕊️
Thank you for visiting Hiroshima and spending this meaningful day with us.
